John Murelle Presents Songs Of Rodgers And Hart
By: ENTERPRISE STAFF, July 30, 2014
“With a Song in My Heart: The Songs of Rodgers and Hart” will be presented by baritone John Murelle at First Church in Sandwich on Wednesday, August 6.
Mr. Murelle will be joined by Boston pianist William Merrill in a concert of songs loosely structured around an imagined romantic encounter. Mr. Murelle weaves the songs into a history of one person’s relationship.
Songwriter Richard Rodgers met lyricist Lorenz Hart in New York City at the dawn of Broadway’s golden age. Mr. Rodgers was 16 years old, Mr. Hart 24. Together they created a name for themselves with some of the most beautiful and enduring songs of the 20th century. “Isn’t It Romantic,” “Where or When,” “My Romance,” “Spring is Here,” and “With a Song in My Heart” are a few of their tunes that are standards today.
Mr. Murelle and Mr. Merrill have been sharing concerts both popular and classical for more than a decade. Recently they presented In A Sentimental Mood: The Songs of Duke Ellington, and Always in My Heart: The Songs of Cuban-American Composer Ernesto Lecuona. Their classical programs include Robert Schumann’s Dicterliebe and Gabriel Fauré’s La Bonne Chanson.
Suggested donation for Wednesday’s performance is $15.
First Church is at 136 Main Street in Sandwich.
