Oil Painting Workshop Explores Painting In Studio & Outdoors

“React in the Field and Reflect in the Studio” is the name of an upcoming workshop at the Falmouth Art Center August 4 through 6. Led by Annie Blair Brown, the workshop is for the oil painter who wants to experience the joys of plein air painting while bringing their studio work to a higher level. The three-day workshop will be a combination of studio time and painting on location. Ms. Brown will show participants step-by-step how to capture a moment outdoors and interpret that information indoors.

Each day Ms. Brown will demonstrate her methods for simplification and color harmony while sharing her secrets for creating luminous light effects. Focus will be placed on confident paint application, interpretive brushwork, and personal expression. Discussions will include choosing the proper plein air equipment, maximizing time outdoors, and balancing the use of photo reference with field studies. Each student will be encouraged to explore their individual voice and personal goals.

Cost for the workshop is $475 for members of the Falmouth Artist Guild and $525 for nonmembers. Register by calling 508-540-3304 or visiting the center’s website at www.falmouthart.org.

Shows at the Falmouth Art Center for August include “Artist’s Choice Exhibit” August 7 through 25, which will include favorite new works by members of the Falmouth Artists Guild, and “By Invitation Only,” a exhibit in the lobby August 13 through September 1 featuring artwork by specially selected Cape Cod artists.

The Falmouth Art Center is at 137 Gifford Street in Falmouth. Hours are 9 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 1 PM Saturdays, and 1 to 4 PM on Sundays.
