The Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce has announced that the dates of this year’s Bourne Scallop Fest will be Friday, September 19, Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21. Hours of the festival will be 10 AM to 10 PM on Friday and Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM on Sunday.
Canal Region Chamber of Commerce president Marie J. Oliva noted that the scallop fest has been recognized for the fourth year in a row as a “Top 100 Event in North America” by the American Bus Association.
New to the festival this year is the event’s location. It moves from Buzzards Bay Park on Main Street to the Cape Cod Fairgrounds, 1220 Nathan Ellis Highway (Route 151) in East Falmouth. Plenty of free parking will be available for festivalgoers.
New attractions this year include the 215th Army Band, which will perform Friday morning at 10:30 on the main stage. Mary Poppins will make a special appearance starting at 11 AM on Sunday, and musical performers GQ and the Lady will perform Sunday afternoon at 2:30, also on the main stage.
In addition to the scallop and fried chicken dinners so closely associated with the festival, attendees can also enjoy food from several new local vendors, including Big Rock Oyster Company, Captain Parker’s Chowder and The Chocolate Café.
The fest has a newly designed website that can be found at www.scallopfest.org. At the website, there are discounted advance sale tickets that are available now, but only for a limited time. Tickets are good for any day of the festival. General admission is just $6. The charge for children ages 6 to 12 is $2, and children 5 and younger are admitted free.
