Classes for Barnstable County Sheriff James M. Cummings’s eighth annual Citizens Academy begin this coming Monday, April 28. Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office public affairs director Roy L. Lyons said there are still a few slots available for anyone interested.
Classes will be held at the Sheriff’s Youth Ranch at 1445 Osterville-West Barnstable Road in West Barnstable. Classes will run for two hours, from 6 to 8 PM. Sessions will be held on consecutive Monday nights for seven weeks. The final class will be on June 9.
Academy attendees will see how K9 teams detect drugs, observe how criminal investigators use modern technology to help solve crimes, and inspect the Emergency Communications Center, home of the county’s regional emergency dispatch operation as well as a mobile van that can take and send messages from incident sites.
