Dorene Sykes, photographic artist and owner of Dorene Sykes Photography in Falmouth, earned recognition as a master artist by the Cape Cod Art Association (CCAA) during its semi-annual master artist application review in March.
Requirements for master artist status include acceptance into at least three nationally advertised juried exhibits at CCAA and three nationally advertised juried exhibits at other venues. Artists must also have won awards in at least two national juried exhibits and have a portfolio of recent works accepted by CCAA Master Artist Portfolio Review jurors.
“I am thrilled to join the ranks of a handful of artists, including only three other photographers, to have achieved recognition as a master artist from one of Cape Cod’s foremost art organizations,” Ms. Sykes said. “With over 1,100 members, it is truly an honor. It’s also an incentive to continue to do and excel at what I love best—capturing images of people enjoying our beautiful Cape Cod seashores.”
In addition to creating photographs, primarily family beach portraits and Cape Cod scenics, Ms. Sykes is on faculty at the Cape Cod Conservatory of Music & Arts where she has been teaching photography classes in Falmouth for four years. She is a member of Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographers Association of Massachusetts, and Professional Photographers of Cape Cod.
Ms. Sykes is also a member of the Falmouth Artists Guild, where she has also won many awards in local juried art exhibits, including Best in Show for “Pilgrim Wife” in the organization’s May 2013 juried photography exhibit.
