A Barnstable County household hazardous waste collection for the Upper Cape will be held on Saturday, June 21, from 9 AM to 1 PM at Falmouth High School, 874 Gifford Street.
Cleaners and chemicals, gasoline, mercury products, pesticides and yard chemicals, and oil-based paints, polishes and stains may be brought to the collection site. Note: Latex paint is not hazardous, and residents are advised to “dry it out and throw it out.”
A town-by-town residents’ guide with a household hazardous products checklist is available at www.capecodextension.org.
Local business owners may also dispose of hazardous and toxic materials at this collection for a fee, which will be based on the type of materials to be disposed. Businesses may call Mike Maguire, extension educator on water quality and hazardous materials for the Cape Cod Extension, at 508-375-6699.
Additional 2014 collection dates will be August 16 at Mashpee High School and October 18 at Peebles Elementary School in Bourne.
