Cape Cod chapter of Military Officers Association of America will award $10,000 in scholarship grants on Saturday, May 3. This annual event includes a luncheon at 11:30 AM at the Coonamessett Inn, Jones Road and Gifford Street, Falmouth.
Ten thousand dollars is the largest amount ever given by the group at one time. Checks will go to two students from Sandwich High School and one from Barnstable High. Recipients are graduating resident Cape and islands seniors, each a close relative of someone serving or having served honorably in the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, public health service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in any component: active, reserve, or National Guard. The chapter has presented more than $155,000 since beginning its program. The money comes exclusively from donations to the chapter’s scholarship fund; no public fundraising events are held.
The luncheon is open to the public and tickets are $35 per person. Reservations may be made by contacting chapter treasurer Colonel John Martins, USAF, at 508-392-9102. The deadline is Friday, April 25.
