A Barnstable County household hazardous waste collection for the Upper Cape will be held next Saturday, August 16, from 9 AM to 1 PM at Mashpee High School, 500 Old Barnstable Road.
Cleaners and chemicals, gasoline, mercury products, pesticides and yard chemicals, and oil-based paints, polishes and stains may be brought to the collection site. Note: Latex paint is not hazardous, and residents are advised to “dry it out and throw it out.”
A town-by-town residents’ guide with a household hazardous products checklist is available at www.capecodextension.org.
Local business owners may also dispose of hazardous and toxic materials at this collection for a fee, which will be based on the type of materials to be disposed. Businesses may call Mike Maguire, extension educator on water quality and hazardous materials for the Cape Cod Extension, at 508-375-6699.
Residents and homeowners from all Upper Cape towns are welcome. Another collection date will be October 18 at Peebles Elementary School in Bourne.
