Sandwich Council on Aging will be offering a 12-week health and wellness package to residents 55 years of age and older called the Aging Mastery Program. This program was developed by the National Council on Aging (NCOA) with the help of a grant through MetLife Foundation. Sandwich COA is one of only 22 senior centers in the nation to offer this program. The program in Sandwich is limited to 35 adults; there will be eight initial weeks of structured class time to be followed by four weeks of additional supporting activities. The goal of the program is to empower older adults to make and maintain changes in health behaviors. The topics to be covered include physical fitness, communicating with doctors, fall prevention, use of Medicare prevention benefits, medication management, healthful eating, planning for the future, and sleep behavior. Participants will earn points for positive actions and rewards.
An informational meeting will be held Wednesday, September 10, at 11 AM, Sandwich Council on Aging, 270 Quaker Meetinghouse Road, East Sandwich. Those interested in learning more about the program can call the Sandwich COA at 508-888-4737.
