Sandwich Recreation: Summer Programs & More

Registration is now open for Sandwich Recreation Department summer programs. Along with the All Day Fun, Fun program, children can sign up for sailing lessons, swimming lessons, youth kayak and stand-up paddleboarding.

The Sandwich Recreation Department is looking for volunteers to help out July 4 with its road race, parade and field events.

Therapeutic qi gong classes for adults will be offered on Mondays from June 2 through 23 from 6:30 to 8 PM. This is a combined form of qi gong and physical exercise that people use to help with chronic ailments, and help improve flexibility, energy and immune function. It is also a way to relax one’s mind and body.
Classes are held at Sandwich Recreation Department, 34 Quaker Meetinghouse Road. The cost is $44 for residents, $49 for nonresidents; register at www.sandwichrec.com.

Parents may drop their children off at the Sandwich Recreation Department for Kids Pizza and Movie Night on Friday, May 2. From 6 to 9 PM, children in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade can enjoy pizza, beverages and popcorn along with activities, games and a movie.

A Taste of Asia cooking class will be held at Oakcrest Cove Lodge on Wednesday, April 23, from 4 to 5:30 PM, offered by the Sandwich Recreation Department as part of the Kids’ Cooking Class with Sandra—Recipes from Around the World. Children ages 9 to 14 will make peanut noodles with chicken and veggies, steamed dumplings and Boston cream cupcakes. Register at www.sandwichrec.com; space is limited. Cost of $30.

The Sandwich Recreation Department is offering a fishing clinic for children ages 6 to 12, in cooperation with the MassWildlife Angler Education Program. Equipment will be available, as well as terminal tackle and live bait. Learn the basics, from casting out to baiting up, and then enjoy the fishing.
The clinic will be held Wednesday, June 4, from 5 to 7 PM at Oakcrest Cove on Peters Pond, 34 Quaker Meetinghouse Road. Cost is $5.
This program is geared to beginners and all participants must be accompanied by an adult. Register at www.sandwichrec.com.
