The Cape Musicians Collective Debuts with The Music of James Brown
May 3, 8pm. $20 / $18 for members. A benefit for the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, 307 Old Main St., South Yarmouth. 508-394-7100 Dance floor. Café style. Light refreshments will be served. Feel free to bring your own!  Founded by Steve Gregory of Score Music Studios, the new Cape Musicians Collective includes professional musicians and music educators from across the Cape, including Brian Sances, Peter Childs, Wendy Chinn, Dylan Vaughn, Ray Siegener, Peter Mann, Ted Myers, Jeffrey Ashur, Zach Enos, Vanessa Gregory, A Capella Anonymous, Shawn Malcomson, Sam Holmstock, Jay Stupakevich, and Jimmie Snider … so far. Its mission is to promote the value and importance of music education though scholarship funding; offer the community unique, professionally produced musical performances; and provide free clinics and other music education opportunities to young musicians and singers. Proceeds from this debut performance will help to fund the Rise and Shine program for youth at risk, specifically those who seek mentoring in music. The concert will showcase the music of James Brown, perhaps the single most influential band leader of the last 50 years and an inspiration to players from all styles. Rock and Pop, Blues and Soul, Jazz and Rap have all imitated or outright stolen his funky grooves, tight arrangements, simple but infectious drum beats, dance moves, and way with a crowd.  The “James Brown Sound” is everywhere, but Mr. Brown is seldom properly recognized as a uniquely gifted band leader and musician.  His songs are masterpieces comprised of individual parts woven together with originality and precision. The Cape Musicians Collective will recognize the contribution Mr. Brown has made to popular music by performing some of his most well-known dance tunes. If you like to dance, this is the event for you! Come enjoy some great music and support a great cause!
