Auditions for Falmouth Chamber Players Orchestra @ John Wesley UMC

When: Thu Aug 22nd
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Where: 270 Gifford Street | Falmouth

The Falmouth Chamber Players Orchestra (FCPO) invites  musicians to join the Orchestra for its upcoming season.  We are now seeking string players and bassoonists. The Orchestra, now in its 7th season, is a volunteer ensemble of 35 players under the direction of music director and conductor John Yankee.  It is comprised of retired professionals, skilled amateurs and proficient students performing masterworks of classical music. Located in Falmouth, it performs a pair of concerts in the fall and a pair in the spring. Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings at the John Wesley Methodist Church in Falmouth from 7 to 9:15 PM, starting September 19. There are approximately 10 rehearsals before each concert.  This year’s opening concert pair will be performed in Falmouth on Saturday, November 16 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, November 17 at 3:00 pm. The program is comprised of Holst’s  “St. Paul Suite”, Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Trumpets, Haydn’s Symphony No. 104  and Townsend’s Concerto for Strings.

Membership is by informal audition with music director Yankee.  There are no set works to prepare for the audition and selections are chosen by those auditioning to demonstrate proficiency and skill level.  A small fee is requested from each member to help cover expenses.  Need-based scholarships are available.

The FCPO continues to grow artistically as well as to garner increased community support.  The most recent concert featured Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with Steinway artist Robert Wyatt, piano soloist and Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony.  The pair of concerts drew record attendance.  The rehearsal atmosphere is supportive with continued growth and improvement providing an ongoing challenge.

To set up an audition and for more information please contact Fritz Sonnichsen at (508) 274 2632.
