ImprovCapeCod is the brainchild of Victoria McKee, who has long taught improvisation on Cape Cod through her ACTS - Actors' Circle for Training in Shakespeare - workshops. After watching shows at ImprovBoston, and noting how much self-confidence improvisation developed, she decided to offer workshops. Cotuit Center for the Arts has provided a home for ImprovCapeCod, and Jim Pettibone, another well-respected drama and improv teacher, is on board. They will be co-teaching the initial sessions, called 'Improvisation for Actors and Non-Actors' beginning Saturday, September 7. Ms. McKee wrote her first grant proposal for the effort and was awarded $400 by the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod to support the outreach part of the program - sending improv teachers out to senior centers and high schools. Further details on Victoria, Jim, the courses and the concept can be found on www.improvcapecod.com, and bookings can be made through the Center, online at www.artsonthecape.org.
The classes, and student shows at the end of each session will have to be self-supporting. The cost will $80 - $68 for members of the Cotuit center - for each 5 week course. Student show tickets, will be $5. Two 5-week sessions of classes for adults 18+ are scheduled, one starting Saturday September 7, and running until Saturday October 5, and the second starting Saturday October 12 and running through Saturday November 5, all from 9 to- 10:30 AM Absolute beginners are welcome - but as ImprovCapeCod develops, more advanced courses will be offered in 2014.
