"The Rocky Horror Show" @ Buzzards Play Productions

Buzzards Play Productions will open its inaugural theater season on Thursday, October 24, with “The Rocky Horror Show.” That seasonally appropriate offering will run at the Wareham theater through November 2.

Richard O’Brien’s “The Rocky Horror Show” enjoys nearly universal cult status, one that culminated with the 1975 classic movie “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” The Buzzards Play Production performance of the play welcomes the participation of the audience.

Theater personnel will have goodie bags with props on sale at the door for full audience participation.

Director Corinne Cameron said she is excited to be bringing such a cult classic to Buzzards Play and promises, “It will be a fully interactive ‘Rocky Horror’!” She encourages all interested audience members, however, to visit the website for more information on active participation, including tips on etiquette, dressing up, dancing, props and talk backs.
Rice, for example, should only be thrown during the wedding scene; the squirt guns that are under some chairs, used only during the rain storm. Similar rules are posted for the flashlights, gloves, confetti, playing cards and more.

The Buzzards Play production of “The Rocky Horror Show” features local actors and music direction by Kevin Quill, who recently performed in a one-man show at the Cotuit Center for the Arts.

Buzzards Play Productions has been hosting shows at its theater for nearly three years, including original works, open mic nights with local talent, comedians, and theatrical productions such as “Godspell,” “Rent,” “The Glass Menagerie,” Shakespeare plays and more.

After “Rocky,” the company’s inaugural season will continue with “A Christmas Carol,” along with music concerts and entertainment through its “musical half,” 3065 LIVE! Touring bands from all over the country will be coming to entertain, along with local artists, who get their chance to entertain in open mic nights, acoustic nights and more.
Performances of “The Rocky Horror Show” are set for October 24 to 26, on October 31 and on November 1 and 2.

Most performances will be at 8 PM, but special midnight shows will be offered on October 26 and 31, and on November 2. Tickets are $18 and are available online or by calling the box office at 508-591-3065. The theater is at 3065 Cranberry Highway, Wareham. Buzzards Play Productions, Inc. will open its Fall Season with the “The Rocky Horror Show.” The theatre will hold auditions for actor/singer/dancers and a Musical Director with Call Backs on Monday, August 19th from 6:00-9:00 pm. (Some new auditions will be accepted on Monday).

The requirements for the audition: a song from the show (requirements and sheet music: TBD), a prepared short monologue of your choosing (Some stock monologues will be available if you are unable to obtain one, however preparation is highly recommended.) and a short choreographed routine will be taught to all who audition and an additional routine will be taught at the Call Back to determine ability. There will be 9 performances over 2 weekends including 3 double headers with the midnight performances. Performance dates and times: Thursday, October 24th, Friday, October 25th, Saturday, October 26th and Thursday, October 31st (Halloween) at 8pm, Friday, November 1st and Saturday, November 2nd at 8pm. Midnight performances are Saturday,  October 26th, Thursday, October 31st (Halloween) and Saturday, November 2nd. This play involves adult themes and simulated sexual situations. While this aspect of the show will not be overly highlighted, they are still an integral part of the script.
