Enjoy a continental breakfast at the beautiful Wianno Club overlooking Nantucket Sound as these three authors will be talk about their books, followed by questions and book signings.
Osterville resident Joseph Doolin renders a nostalgic yet clear-eyed portrait of his family’s past in his new book, South Boston Boy. It’s an uplifting story of how his family survived challenges and setbacks of the Great Depression, World War II and the Postwar years, and how they beat poverty, mental illness, and alcoholism in public housing in the midst of an ethnic urban village in the 1940s-1950s.
Joe will also discuss the sequel , A Death in Copley Square, based on true events, where a young divorcee from the projects harbors a deadly secret about her Brahmin boss and is stalked by fear amid the shadows of midcentury Boston, When security guards fail to protect her, we are led on a thrilling romp from a stodgy early mutual fund start-up, through pulsating Cuba at the dawn of the revolution.. Half a century later, her grown-up office boy completes the jig-saw puzzle.
Falmouth resident Terri Arthur will talk about her novel Fatal Decision: Edith Cavell WWI Nurse about the life of the legendary British nurse Edith Cavell, and based on extensive author research and historical fact. Terri’s background as a nurse and educator provide the perfect combination for a realistic writing style to spin her riveting tale of historical suspense. Edith Cavell’s duties as a healer clashed with the demands of a ruthless occupying regime during World War where she became an important link in the rescue of Allied soldiers through the Belgian underground. What happened next is both shocking and suspenseful. It caused a worldwide outrage, shaped American public opinion of the war, and rocked the German government.
The fifth in his series of Cape Cod Mysteries, Randall Peffer’s Screams & Whispers brings back young Cape Cod public defender and commercial fisherman Michael Decastro from Provincetown Follies, Bangkok Blues, as he ventures to Saigon with his father, a Vietnam War vet, to come to the aid of his long-lost client and love-interest Tuki Aparecio. The half-Vietnamese, half-African American diva is in a fight of her life with a mysterious dragon lady from Indochina’s underworld. At stake is an antique ruby in Tuki’s possession and the mortal souls of everyone Decastro loves. Ghosts that the Decastros and Tuki carry with them from Cape Cod and Southeast Asia will have their day.
