The recent U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United v. FEC allowed unlimited corporate spending on elections.  David Cobb, an attorney and organizer for the national Move to Amend coalition, will speak on the history behind the recent decision, a resolution on our November ballot, and how we can abolish "Corporate Personhood" and reestablish a government of, by, and for the people. Cobb will be speaking on September 22, 2012 at 3pm at Cape Cod Community College (Grossman Commons.)

Cobb will be the keynote speaker at the Conference “Roots of Violence, Seeds of Change” sponsored by the Cape Cod branch of the Women’s International league for Peace and Freedom. Cape residents are encouraged to attend the full day conference. Those who cannot are welcome to come by 3pm to hear David Cobb speak about the national movement against Corporate Personhood

The conference takes place at Cape Cod Community College from 8:30 to 4:30. It will open with a political fashion show and will explore the roots of issues such as housing, water pollutants, threats to our immigrant communities and other issues facing residents of the Cape. A series of workshops will bring people together to find ways to think globally and act locally to create seeds of change to bring about a more just and peaceful community.

“Corporate Personhood” commonly refers to court-created precedent that gives corporations constitutional rights intended solely for human beings. David Cobb will provide information about the issue and facilitate a discussion about local action on Cape Cod and in communities across the United States to win the amendment campaign through grassroots mobilization.

“We are a diverse coalition with deep roots in communities nationwide. We recognize that amending the Constitution to restore the power of the people over corporations will not be easy, but we know correcting the Supreme Court is imperative to the progress of our nation,” stated Cobb.
