Salt Marsh Lecture @ Green Briar Nature Center
When: Sat Oct 13th
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Where: Green Briar Nature Center | 6 Discovery Hill Road | Sandwich
Dr. Frank D. Richardson will present a lecture titled: "Salt Marsh Haying: A Collection of Tools, Photographs, Books, Artwork and Decoys," on Saturday, October 13 at 2 PM in the Education Building at the Green Briar Nature Center.
The lecture is based on his exhibit, on display now at Green Briar, covering the period from Colonial times to the early 20th Century. Marshes along the North American Atlantic Coast provided farmers and livestock owners with an all important product: salt marsh hay. On Cape Cod, the salt marsh hay growing on the higher edges of the marsh community was harvested for animal fodder and proved to be much higher in nutritional value than normal hay.
A reception with Dr. Richardson and viewing of this highly interesting exhibit will follow his program. Admission is free and all are invited to attend. Green Briar is located at
6 Discovery Hill Road, just off Route 6A in East Sandwich. For further information, call 508-888-6870.
