The Ocean Sunfish and the Basking Shark
with Carol “Krill” Carson
President, New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance
On Thursday, November 1 at 7 pm the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History will present Gentle Giants of Cape Cod Bay – the Ocean Sunfish and the Basking Shark with Carol “Krill” Carson, President of the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance.
This program is free to the public. Free will donation.
With a background as marine biologist and Outreach Coordinator for the Captain John Boats out of Plymouth, MA, “Krill” has studied whales, sea turtles, ocean sunfish, basking sharks and other marine animals off Cape Cod since 1980.
Her fascinating program will focus on the ocean sunfish and the basking shark, two very unusual fish that migrate great distances to summer in the waters off Cape Cod. Learn about their travels as they filter copepods at or near the water’s surface. Find out how you can get involved by reporting your sightings of these large coastal pelagic fish - live or dead - to Krill through NEBShark, a community-sighting network. Learn why they strand and how you can help save them.
