Raised in the Midwest, Claudia Schmidt has commanded stages large and small for over three decades and produced a dozen albums, singing everything from jazz, blues, gospel, country and world music to American folk classics. Over time she has added original songs and stories to this wide repertoire. Ms Schmidt has been featured on PRI's “A Prairie Home Companion” and “Mountain Stage,” and in the TV documentary "I Sing Because I Can't Fly." She has written music for and acted in the musical "Bag Lady Tendencies" in Milwaukee, and starred in the award-winning production of "Good Person of Szechuan" in Chicago.
Her live performances have been described by reviewers as a one-woman revitalization movement, featuring songs and stories full of humor, heartbreak and wonder, delivered in a powerful voice that touches audiences immediately and deeply. As the Boston Globe said, "Claudia Schmidt is a true artist – she has the talent and the fire of genius."
