Cotuit Center for the Arts will hold its monthly Wine and Music Wednesday on January 16 from 6 to 7:30 PM in the Gallery. The Mooncussers Duo will be the feature entertainment. Tickets are $5 and available only at the door.
The event is an opportunity for the community to view the art in the galleries, learn about what events, exhibits and classes at the center, and meet old friends and make new ones.
The Mooncussers Duo-Peter Mann on keyboards and Mike Hendricks on guitar-will play jazz, blues, and Latin covers and their own arrangements, including such standards as "Look of Love," "Fly Me to the Moon," "Georgia," "Angel Eyes," and "Crossroads."
Mr. Mann and Mr. Hendricks play frequently on the Cape for several years, both together and with other local groups at such locations as the Harvest Gallery Wine Bar in Dennis and the Island Merchant in Hyannis.
Mr. Hendricks chose the band's name as a lighthearted way of evoking a part of Cape Cod lore and its beaches. "Mooncussers" is a term for pirates who would cause shipwrecks by destroying lighthouses or beacons along the coast and replacing them with misleading signal lights.
In the galleries from January 7 through February 23 is "Making Waves," the seventh annual collaborative winter exhibit by the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and Cotuit Center for the Arts. The exhibit features works by Cape Cod artists who have interpreted the theme, "making waves," both literally and figuratively.
One of the primary purposes of the exhibit is to involve children in making and appreciating art. Art works will be displayed at children's eye level and a series of child-friendly events are scheduled during the exhibit. The exhibit is free and open to the public 10 AM to 5 PM Tuesday through Sunday and during events at the center.
Wine will be served by representatives from the Grain & Vine Spirit Shoppe of Hyannis, which provides a different selection of fine wines each month. Servers are happy to share their knowledge and enthusiasm about the wines.
Wine and Music Wednesday is held the third Wednesday of every month throughout the year.
The center is at 4404 Route 28 in Cotuit. For more information, visit ArtsOnTheCape.org or call 508-508-428-0669.
