Woods Hole Public Library winter concert series: Notescape
A Valentine concert in song
Notescape, known for its harmonious a cappella interpretations, will be performing an evening of romantic ballads, from Mills Brothers to doo-wop, with a centerpiece of
classic tunes from the Golden Age of American popular song—the songbooks of Fats Waller, Hoagie Carmichael, Johnny Mercer, Irving Berlin, Harry Warren, George and Ira Gershwin, along with other favorites from the recent past. The Valentine-themed, cabaret-style concert will take place at the Woods Hole Public Library on Friday, February 15, at 7:30 pm.
The voices of Notescape belong to upper Cape residents who have performed in concert and cabaret settings locally and throughout the region. The group is led by Tom Goux, of Monument Beach, and includes Joe Hackler, Peter Clark, Peter Hopewood and Doug Mann, all of Falmouth and all involved in the medical, educational, and scientific fields. Both Tom Goux and
Dr. Mann will be offering solos during the program, accompanied by pianist Oliver Muldoon.
Other jazz instrumentalists joining Notescape for this concert are Jeff Callard, guitar and tenor sax, and Stuart Gunn, string bass. Mr. Gunn, is known locally for his many years as leader of the traditional jazz band at Edaville Railroad and was famous for providing the driving bass lines (tuba) for Bob Connors’ Yankee Rhythm Kings. He was also leader of the Old Jazz Ensemble of Boston, where he produced a decade of educational concerts in area schools. He has been Principle Tuba with the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra for the past 18 years and has performed with many of the major symphony orchestras of our region.
Tickets, costing $20, are available at the Library during normal hours of operation, at Eight Cousins, at the Bank of Woods Hole, and at the door.
