Conservatory Concert Band Performs Winter Concert
The Cape Cod Conservatory Concert Band, performing under the baton of John P. Hagon, presents "Let's Dance" on Sunday, March 10 at 3 PM at Tilden Arts Center, Cape Cod Community College. The concert is free and sponsored by the Academy for Lifelong Learning.
The Cape Cod Conservatory Concert Band is a 45-piece wind and percussion ensemble composed of adult amateur and professional musicians from across Cape Cod. Director John Hagon, a former Army Band conductor and the retired Chair of Music Education at Berklee College of Music, also conducts the Cape Cod Community Orchestra.
The program features a world premiere piece, commissioned by the Academy and written by Cape Cod composer Michael Donovan. Instrumental dance numbers will range from "Slavonic Dance Number 1" by Dmitri Shostakovich to "Symphonic Dances" from "Fiddler on the Roof." The big band era is represented by a Wayne Scott arrangement, "Glenn Miller in Concert." Other concert highlights include George Gershwin's "An American in Paris" and "Berceuse and Finale" from Igor Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite."
Although the concert is free, audience donations are welcome. The proceeds support education at the Cape Cod Conservatory of Music & Arts.
