Falmouth voters elected Douglas H. Jones of Woods Hole, to the board of selectmen tonight.

Results were announced at 8:45 PM at Town Hall by Falmouth Town Clerk Michael C. Palmer in front of supporters for all three candidates. Mr. Jones garnered 2,688 votes, besting Paul D. Brodeur of East Falmouth, by 540 votes. David R. Moriarty of West Falmouth, the only other candidate in the selectmen's race, tallied 575 votes in his fourth campaign attempt.

Mr. Jones, the head of the math department at Falmouth Academy, will fill the seat previously held by Melissa C. Freitag who elected not to run as she pursues a second master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Falmouth voters shot down the sole ballot question, electing not to support a one-year capital exclusion for $800,000 that would have been placed into the town's capital stabilization fund.  If approved the money would have been used to fund the town's capital projects for the next fiscal year. Any appropriations of those funds would have required a two-thirds vote of Town Meeting.
