An off-duty federal agent caused a minor stir at the East Falmouth Elementary School last Friday when he showed up with his service weapon.

A press release issued Friday by the Falmouth Police Department stated that the agent entered the school at 10:25 AM to watch a school play being presented that morning, and immediately identified himself as a federal law enforcement agent to school officials.

The agent said he wanted to identify himself right away so that if someone saw the firearm, it would not cause a panic, the press release stated.

School officials contacted the Falmouth Police Department, which dispatched an officer to verify the man’s identity and status as a federal agent.

Police said at no time was anyone in danger and the school was not placed in lockdown.

The agent’s identity was withheld, as was his agency affiliation.
