Police Charge Sandwich Man With OUI After Head-On Crash

Police arrested a 40-year-old Sandwich man and charged him with drunk driving after he reportedly crashed his car into an oncoming vehicle while trying to illegally pass another vehicle on Harlow Road late yesterday afternoon.

The man, Thomas E. Sauter of Sconset Circle, was charged with drunk driving, his third such offense, along with operating to endanger, passing in a no-passing zone, and for having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

According to police reports, the head-on crash occurred at 4:29 PM in the road's southbound lane. Mr. Sauter was injured in the crash and was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation. He was later released to police custody. No one else was reported being hurt, police said.
