East Falmouth Man Charged with Kidnapping

An East Falmouth man is facing kidnapping and other charges after he allegedly forced a woman into his car early this morning.

Alex M. Duarte, 24, of Vidal Avenue was arrested following a traffic stop on Ashumet Road, Hatchville, just minutes after the alleged kidnapping. Lieutenant Brian L. Reid of the Falmouth Police Department said Mr. Duarte allegedly followed the woman to the parking lot of Walmart, forced her into his vehicle, then fled the scene.

A witness called police immediately, and Mr. Duarte was quickly located on Ashumet Road. He was taken into custody at 2:08 AM and charged with kidnapping, assault with a dangerous weapon, threatening to commit a crime (to wit: murder), negligent operation of a motor vehicle, using a motor vehicle without authority, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

The case was still being processed as of this morning and no further information was available. Lt. Reid did not divulge the relationship between Mr. Duarte and the victim.

Mr. Duarte is known to Falmouth police due to several past arrests on drug charges, motor vehicle violations, and for violating abuse prevention orders.
