Falmouth Police Logs June 16 - 19, 2014

Monday, June 16

12:34 PM: A resident of Blackthorn Circle, East Falmouth, reported having received harassing phone calls.

1:07 PM: A resident of Marvin Circle, Falmouth, reported that a check on the way to them from the Internal Revenue Service was intercepted and cashed at a bank in Tennessee. The IRS is investigating the incident.

1:29 PM: Police assisted Falmouth firefighters in a search for a man who was reported to have passed out at the wheel of a pickup truck on the side of East Falmouth Highway near Acapesket Road. He apparently regained consciousness and drove away. Responding officers could not find the man.

5:28 PM: A resident of Gardiner Road, Woods Hole, reported that a boat and trailer had been stolen. Police said the boat had been towed for a parking violation.

6:39 PM: A resident of Walker Street, Falmouth, reported that a neighbor’s dog had been barking for three days straight.

8:06 PM: Patrolman Charles Marken was dispatched to John Parker Road, East Falmouth, following a report of a man doing wheelies on an all-terrain vehicle. Ptl. Marken saw the operator driving without a helmet and cited him for numerous violations.

8:39 PM: Firefighters treated a 32-year-old woman on Teaticket Highway who overdosed on what police believed to be heroin. Firefighters transported her to the Falmouth Hospital. Police found a hypodermic needle on the scene.


Tuesday, June 17

1:13 AM: Patrolman Melissa Martin observed a van with its exterior lights on parked in a lot adjacent to Rockland Trust in North Falmouth, which had recently been robbed. A man came out of the woods and got into the vehicle. Ptl. Martin questioned the man and noticed that he appeared drunk. When Ptl. Martin asked him to step out of the vehicle, he began resisting. When he continued to resist and grow violent, Ptl. Martin drove a stun gun into his shoulder and the man, identified as Alexander S. Kane, 22, of Pocasset, complied. Police arrested and charged him with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and marijuana possession under one ounce.

9:08 AM: Firefighters transported a man to Falmouth Hospital who had been asleep on a bench outside of Stop & Shop. Police believed he was heavily intoxicated.

10:18 AM: Police received a report of a bag of trash and the cab of a truck left on the side of Blacksmith Shop Road, East Falmouth.

10:41 AM: An employee of the Falmouth Animal Hospital reported that a dog was hit by a car on Route 28. Police contacted Falmouth Animal Control.

12:05 PM: A woman reported that someone she knew stole three rings from her. She told police she located the rings at a Teaticket pawn shop. Police have a suspect in an open investigation.

6:01 PM: Police responded to the Zylinski House on Teaticket Highway after receiving a report that someone was trespassing on the grounds. Police located Kurt Yenulevich, 49, of Carver inside the building. Mr. Yenulevich said he had stayed in the residence in the past and thought it was legal to enter the house, police reported. Police believed he was intoxicated and brought him into protective custody.

7:48 PM: An employee of Auto Zone on Davis Straits, Falmouth, reported that an intoxicated woman was in the store. Police responded and brought Jacqueline M. Balaschak, 49, of West Tisbury into protective custody.

8:26 PM: Thirteen Zippo lighters valued at over $200 were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at the Falmouth Mall. Police reported that the windows of the car were open.

9:03 PM: Police brought Joseph Kovac, 54, of Sandwich into protective custody from Ter Heun Drive, Falmouth.

Wednesday, June 18

6:12 AM: Police allowed a drunk man to walk home after firefighters found him asleep at the Davisville lights on East Falmouth Highway.

7:19 AM: Police found nothing suspicious when they responded to the report of a death of an 83-year-old man on Bonito Avenue, East Falmouth.

11:10 AM: A resident of Pinecrest Beach Drive, East Falmouth, reported that his neighbor forced his way into the resident’s home and had an argument about a dog barking.

2:38 PM: Someone reported that a dog in a car parked on Ter Heun Drive, Falmouth, did not have sufficient air to breathe.

3:12 PM: A resident of North Falmouth Highway reported identity theft.

3:29 PM: A resident of Boxberry Hill Road, East Falmouth, reported that money had been stolen from a wallet.

6:22 PM: Police brought Michael T. Mathieu, 51, listed as homeless, into protective custody after they found him lying intoxicated in the bushes at the Falmouth Mall parking lot.

7:26 PM: Police responded to Turner Road, East Falmouth, for the report of a 49-year-old man who died and said that nothing appeared suspicious in the death.

7:35 PM: A resident of Zekes Way, East Falmouth, reported that someone stole a telescope out of their vehicle while parked at the Falmouth Plaza.

9:26 PM: Police responded to the report of an overdose on Luke Road, East Falmouth, but could not locate the victim. They brought a K-9 to the scene but still could not find him and could not confirm if he did overdose.

10:16 PM: A woman reported being assaulted on Main Street with a gallon of water.

11:38 PM: A woman came to the police station to report that she was assaulted and that her cellphone was stolen.

Thursday, June 19

1:36 AM: A resident of Acapesket Road, East Falmouth, reported that two of their neighbor’s dogs were barking loudly. An officer responded to the dog owner’s residence but no one answered the door.

3:34 AM: A vault alarm sounded at a bank on Gifford Street, Falmouth. An officer noted that the exterior of the bank was secure and noted that no wires were cut outside. He could not gain entry to the bank to check the vault. At 7:30 AM, an employee came to the store to assist the officer. The officer determined the area was clear and the bank secure.
