A semi-retired pediatrician was arrested on child pornography charges Tuesday morning, June 24, in Mashpee.
A spokesman for the United States Attorney’s Office in Boston identified the pediatrician as Dr. Daniel J. O’Hern.
He was charged in federal court with distribution and attempted distribution of child pornography, as well as possession of child pornography. If found guilty, he could face up to 30 years in prison.
Dr. O’Hern appeared in U.S. District Court in Boston today, June 24, and will remain in US Marshal custody until his detention hearing on Friday, June 27, at 1:45 PM.
Mashpee Police Department, along with assistance from the Barnstable Police Department and the United States Postal Service, executed a search warrant early this morning at the Quashnet Valley Condominium complex on Lowell Road, where they arrested Dr. O’Hern.
According to a news release issued by the US Attorney’s Office, during the search numerous digital devices were seized, including computers, hard drives, and other media storage devices. An affidavit also stated that preliminary review uncovered numerous images of children being sexually exploited, including pubescent minor females.
The Town of Mashpee assessor’s database shows that Dr. O’Hern, 64, purchased the condominium unit in September 2012.
An article published in the Hudson Valley Parent Magazine reported in 2012 that he was the author of a book entitled “Common Sense Pediatrics for Parents,” and that he practiced in Middletown, New York, for 30 years.
Mark Trocino, director of marketing and public relations at Crystal Run Healthcare, where Dr. O’Hern practiced in Middletown, declined to comment on the arrest.
