Alice Jane Rykala of Bourne died at Bourne Manor on April 13. She was 90.
Born in Detroit, she was the oldest child of Arthur and Marjorie Rose Greene.
She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore P. Rykala, who died in 1990.
Ms. Rykala graduated with a degree in bacteriology from Michigan State College in 1945. She remained in East Lansing, Michigan, and worked as a researcher in the Michigan State agricultural chemistry department until 1949, when she moved to Detroit.
While in Detroit she was an active leader in activities and women’s groups at St. Christopher Episcopal Church. She was also an avid family photographer and traveler.
She enjoyed music and dancing.
Ms. Rykala leaves her daughters, Susan Avery and her husband, James Avery, of Woods Hole, and Martha Rykala of Hayward, California; her son, John Rykala and his wife, Mary Rykala, of Poulsbo, Washington; her grandson, Christopher Avery of Tucson, Arizona; and her sisters, Marjorie Allison of Howell, Michigan, and Shirley Greene of Zanoni, Missouri.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, May 15, at 2:30 PM at Bourne Manor, 146 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne.
Burial services will be held at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Novi, Michigan, at 11 AM on Monday, September 1.
