Claire F. Lavin

Claire F. Lavin of Mashpee died on July 2. She was 80.

Ms. Lavin was born in Framingham, the daughter of the late Francis and Ann Mahoney. She graduated from Framingham High School in 1951 before attending Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing.

After being a homemaker for many years, she began a long and successful career as a real estate broker. She first worked in the MetroWest area of Massachusetts before working for Popponesset Real Estate.

A resident of Framingham for more than 50 years, Ms. Lavin was actively involved in local politics. She served on the Framingham School Committee for many years and was the first woman elected to the board of selectmen in Framingham.

Later in life, she moved permanently to Popponesset.

In addition to politics and real estate, Ms. Lavin was a passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox.

She leaves her five children, Charlotte Carr and her husband, Kevin Carr, of Upton, Kellie Pegoraro and her husband, Gary Pegoraro, of Franklin, Mary Theresa Stockwell and her husband, Robert Stockwell, of Milton, Georgia, Joseph Lavin and his wife, Michelle Lavin, of Barrington, Rhode Island, and Amy Flynn and her husband, Timothy Flynn, of Walpole. She also leaves nine grandchildren, Kieran, Meaghan and Colin Carr, Matthew and Emily Pegoraro, Kylie and Rhianna Lavin, and Emma and Timothy Flynn; two great-grandchildren, Caydence and Savannah Carr; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ms. Lavin was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth D’Andrea; her former husband, Joseph P. Lavin; and a grandson, Joseph P. Lavin IV.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 7, from 4 to 7 PM at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Avenue, Mashpee.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 8, at 10 AM at Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee.

Burial will follow in Great Neck Woods Cemetery in Mashpee.
