Dr. George Christman, 91, of Falmouth died on July 27 at Falmouth Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Belmont, Dr. Christman attended Harvard College, from which he graduated with a degree in chemistry.
After graduation, he served as a meteorologist in the US Navy during World War II. It was during his service that he met Marjorie Kennedy. They were married in June 1949.
After the war, Dr. Christman attended Harvard Dental School and earned his doctorate.
In 1954, Dr. Christman and his wife began spending their summers in Falmouth. They lived in Natick before permanently moving to Falmouth in 1967.
He and his wife were active members of St. Joseph Church in Woods Hole.
Dr. Christman leaves his children, Claire Williams of Gainesville, Florida, Dr. George Christman Jr. of Falmouth, and Anne Wetherbee and Kathy Christman, both of Ossipee, New Hampshire; and four grandchildren, Jackson Williams of Gainesville, Nicholas Christman and Peter Christman, both of New York City, and Colin Christman of Hartford, Connecticut.
Mrs. Christman died in September 2010.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 1, at 10 AM in St. Joseph Church, 33 Millfield Street, Woods Hole.
Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Falmouth.
