Eleanor M. Priestley, 95, a former resident of Sagamore Beach and longtime educator in Bourne, died August 6 at D’Youville Manor Nursing Home in Lowell.
Born in Lawrence, Ms. Priestley was the daughter of Harry and Mary (Tordoff) Priestley.
She graduated from Lowell High School before graduating from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell (formerly Lowell Teachers College) with her bachelor’s degree. Ms. Priestley later received advanced degrees from Boston University and Harvard University.
She worked in the Bourne school system, where she was a teacher, principal, and director of curriculum during her 42-year career.
In addition to Sagamore Beach, Ms. Priestley was a former resident of Bradenton, Florida.
Ms. Priestley visited various places throughout her life, including Australia, Hawaii, England, and numerous other locations in Europe.
She was a 72-year member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and a member of the Sagamore Mother’s Club for many years. Ms. Priestley was also a talented painter.
She leaves three sisters, Charlotte P. Johnson of Dracut, Priscilla P. Lenox and her husband, George S. Lenox, of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, and Janet P. Richardson and her husband, Gilbert C. Richardson, of Dracut; eight nieces and nephews, Sarah Hirst, Joseph Priestley Jr., Jennifer Craig, Stewart Lenox, Pamela O’Connor, Mary Bedell, Eleanor Benedix, and David Lenox; and many extended family members.
She was the sister of the late William M. Priestley, Joseph A. Priestley Sr., and Marion P. Carver; and aunt of the late Harry Johnson, William Priestley, and Carole Priestley.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday, August 10, from 3 to 6 PM at Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut.
A funeral will take place on Monday, August 11, at 10 AM at the funeral home, followed by a funeral service at 11 AM in Christ Church United of Dracut.
Interment will follow in West Parish Cemetery, Andover.
