Eugene H. Morrow

Eugene Haines Morrow Sr., 83, a lifelong resident of Sandwich, died on May 2.

He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was a life member of the American Legion Post 188. He actively participated in the American Legion Honor Guard for many years.

Mr. Morrow worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for more than 35 years. He finished his career as an assistant supervisor at Shawme-Crowell State Forest and the Scussett Beach State Reservation.

In addition, Mr. Morrow was the shellfish constable for the Town of Sandwich from 1960 to 1997, deputy forest warden from 1967 to 1969, and was a member of the Board of Fire Engineers from 1971 until its disbandment in 1978. He was also a volunteer fireman in Sandwich for many years.

He was an avid fisherman and shellfisherman. In addition, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, and entertaining and was a fan of the Bruins and Red Sox.

Mr. Morrow also was a talented woodworker and bird carver. In his younger years, he made fishing lures for famed fisherman Stan Gibbs. He also made jewelry for Hazel Blake French.

He leaves his children, Gene Morrow Jr. of Sandwich, Marybeth Robichaud and her husband, Al Robichaud, of Sandwich, and John Morrow and his wife, Michele Morrow, of Arizona; and his grandchildren, Madeline and Dillon Morrow of Arizona. He also leaves his brother, Wallace Morrow III of Sandwich; two sisters, Barbara Morrow Gates of Sandwich and Virginia Morrow Smith of Calverton, New York; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He also leaves his former wife, Carol McArdle Morrow Taylor; and his longtime companion, Betty Densmore.

Mr. Morrow was predeceased by a daughter and a sister.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 27, from 1 to 4 PM at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich. A memorial service will take place at 3:30 PM.

Interment will be in Bayview Cemetery, Sandwich. A family gathering will follow at the American Legion Post 188 in Sandwich.
