Jeffrey B. Bailey of Monument Beach, a longtime patrolman with the Bourne Police Department, died August 17 at Falmouth Hospital due to complications following surgery. He was 69.
Mr. Bailey was known as Beetle.
He was a decorated sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, having served two tours in Vietnam. For his service, he was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, among other honors.
He later worked for 28 years as a police officer with the Bourne Police Department.
Mr. Bailey was elected to the Bourne Recreation Authority in 1986 and served in that capacity until his resignation in 1988.
Mr. Bailey leaves his fiance, Noel Monillas of Monument Beach; his children, Jeffrey Brian Bailey Jr. of Buzzards Bay, Whitney Monillas of New Bedford, and Karyn Croce of Lakeville; and eight grandchildren.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, August 25, at 2:15 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
