Mary K. (Durkan) Herlihy, 84, died April 23 at the Stanley R. Tippett Hospice Home in Needham. She leaves a daughter in Falmouth.
Born in Frenchbrook, County Mayo, Ireland, she was the daughter of Anthony and Mary (Walsh) Durkan. She had 16 siblings.
She was the widow of John J.C. Herlihy, and had lived in Norwood for 60 years.
Mrs. Herlihy was an active member of St. Timothy Catholic Church and volunteered at Norwood Meals on Wheels and at the Pine Street Inn in Boston.
She leaves eight children, Charles Herlihy and his wife, Lucy Herlihy, of Grand Forks, British Columbia; Patricia Herlihy of Falmouth; Mark Herlihy and his wife, Nancy Campany, of Foxboro; William Herlihy of Grand Forks; Kathleen Herlihy of Southington, Connecticut; Donna Portillo and her husband, John Portillo, of Santa Ana, California; Ellen Herlihy of Norwood, and Moira Herlihy of Norwood. She also leaves 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, April 27, from 4 to 8 PM at the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street, Norwood. The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 28, at 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 650 Nichols Street, Norwood.
