Word has been received that Perry Wayne Rhoads of Sandwich died on March 2 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 58.
Mr. Rhoads was born in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Virginia C. (Mikieta) Cooper and the late Wilbur N. Rhoads.
He graduated from high school in Tempe, Arizona, and from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mr. Perry was a US Navy veteran who served aboard the submarine USS Permit (SSN-594) as a marine diesel engine technician.
He worked for John Deere Credit Services before moving to Cape Cod, where for 24 years he worked at Barnstable Municipal Airport, including stints with Hyannis Air Service, Capeflight and Griffin Aviation. For this expertise he was known as Rampdawg.
He was recently employed by Rectrix Aviation Services in Sarasota, Florida.
Mr. Rhoads was a Green Bay Packers and NASCAR fan, a model train enthusiast, and enjoyed vegetable gardening and practical jokes.
He leaves his partner of 25 years, Paula Leveille of Sandwich; his daughter, Stephanie Rhoads, and grandson, Jonathan Rhoads, of Texas; his son, Dustin Rhoads of Iowa; his stepdaughter, April Lacey of Massachusetts; his mother, Virginia Cooper of Hawaii; his brother, Neil Rhoads of Hawaii; and his sister, Cindy McIntosh of Minnesota.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held at Rectrix Aerodrome at Barnstable Municipal Airport on Saturday, May 3, from 10 AM to noon.
