Rita M. Bartel of Andover, a former East Falmouth resident, died on April 12 in the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. She was 89.
Born in Cambridge to Charles and Rose (McDonald) McCafferty, she was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin School.
She later lived in Tewksbury, where she raised her family.
Ms. Bartel was an employee at Macy’s in Lowell for many years, working there through three store names, starting with The Bon Marché department store.
She had lived at Atria Marland Place in Andover since July 2013.
Ms. Bartel was an avid reader.
She leaves her son, John V. Bartel Jr. of Derry, New Hampshire; her daughter, Patricia L. Bartel of Mashpee; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her sister, Pauline Caterina of Manchester, New Hampshire.
Ms. Bartel was predeceased by her husband, John V. Bartel, who died in 1989; her daughter, Julie A. Bartel; and her siblings, Francis McDonald and Winifred Reilly.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 15, at 11 AM in First Parish Church, 47 East Derry Road, Derry.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
