Robert G. Avery

Robert G. Avery, 93, of Sandwich died on July 4.

Born and educated in Quincy, Mr. Avery leaves his wife of 68 years, Annette E. Avery.

He was a graduate of Brown University, where he served as a treasurer and president of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.

During World War II, Mr. Avery served in both the US Navy and US Marine Corps. After his service, he moved to Milton, where he owned and operated a real estate office for 12 years.

He was a member of the Milton Rotary Club.

In 1960, he moved to South Yarmouth, where he purchased Seawood Ocean Courts in Bass River. He sold the business in 1972 and purchased Moby Dick’s Gift Shop and Lobster-in-the Rough Restaurant in West Yarmouth.

In 1984, he sold the restaurant and retired.

Mr. Avery was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed fishing off Monomoy Island and Nantucket.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter, Andrea A. Donovan and her husband, John Donovan, of Sandwich; four grandsons, Robert G. Avery III and Rodney A. Avery, both of South Yarmouth, Matthew F. Grady of Forestdale, and John R. Grady of Quincy; and three great-grandchildren.

His son, Robert G. Avery Jr., died in May 1992.

His funeral service will be private.
