Robert L. Jordan, 65, of East Sandwich died at home on April 21.
Born in Bennington, Vermont, he was the son of Llewellyn and Eunice (Maynard) Jordan. He graduated from Bennington Catholic High School in 1966, then obtained his bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College and Castleton State College in 1970.
After graduation he taught school in Wells, New York, before becoming a steward at the Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, Vermont.
An accomplished golfer, he became a member of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America and was employed with the Albany Country Club in Albany, New York, and the Belleview-Biltmore Hotel in Clearwater, Florida, where he met his partner, Robert K. Mix, who died in 2011.
Retiring from golf at an early age, Mr. Jordan settled in East Sandwich, where he became very involved in needlepoint and embroidery and was the first man to become a certified judge in the National Needlepoint and Embroidering Society, affording him the ability to travel around the world to judge needlepoint creations.
He leaves his sister, Linda Sandquist and her husband, John Sandquist, of Bennington, Vermont; his nieces and nephews, John Sandquist, Michelle Sandquist, McKenzie Sandquist, Michael Sandquist, Rik Jordan, Laura Killian and Katlyn Jordan; one aunt and one uncle, Charlotte Jordan Gates and Thomas Maynard; and numerous cousins.
In addition to his partner, he was predeceased by his brothers, Richard Jordan, Donald Jordan, Dennis Jordan and Scott Jordan.
A funeral Mass was celebrated May 2 at Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee.
Burial was in Sandwich Town Cemetery.
