Robert S. Harmon Jr., 52, of East Sandwich died at home on April 26.
A ninth-generation Cape Codder, he was born in Osterville to Robert S. Harmon and the late Anne Harmon.
He graduated from Barnstable High School in 1980 and in 1988 graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where he received a Fifth Year Traveling Scholarship award.
Mr. Harmon was married to Leslie (Gerhard) Harmon for 32 years.
He was a sculptor, glassworker and public artist whose work was shown at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, received positive reviews in The Boston Globe and was represented by several Boston area galleries.
His public art was commissioned for many First Night Boston celebrations and he also had public displays in Somerville City Hall, Boston City Hall and City Place Boston. Until his death he maintained his Sagamore Art Works Studio below the Sagamore Bridge.
For the past several years he used his creativity as a filmmaker through his 61 Studios venture.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Maddy, Olivia and Joshua Harmon, all of East Sandwich; and sisters, Ann Jordan of Osterville, Sharon Lapham of Groton, Vermont, and Claire Hogan of Marstons Mills.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 10, at 1 PM at the East Sandwich Grange Hall, 91 Old County Road, East Sandwich.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Mass General Hospital Cancer Center, c/o Development Office, 100 Cambridge St., Suite 1310, Boston, MA 02114. Include “In memory of Mr. Bob Harmon” on the memo line to ensure funds go toward research into small-cell cancer.
