Terry Louise Donelan O’Brien of Falmouth died April 21 at Falmouth Hospital after a brief illness. She was 60.
Born in Coronado, California, she spent her youth in New Canaan, Connecticut, and had been a longtime resident of Falmouth.
She was a graduate of Northfield Mt. Hermon School and completed her undergraduate studies at Nasson College and the University of Bridgeport, earning a bachelor of arts degree in psychology in 1984. She earned a master’s degree in social work from Boston University in 2002.
As a licensed certified social worker, she worked with veterans, substance abusers and Head Start program participants.
She was a mental health counselor and a volunteer at Falmouth Hospital.
A nature and animal lover who especially cherished her pet dogs, she was also a writer and poet, could play the piano, was fluent in German and enjoyed traveling in Europe.
She was especially committed to her many years of sobriety and to the support and counseling she was able to offer others.
She leaves her mother, Joan (Vincent) Donelan of Falmouth, her seven siblings, Thomas Donelan, Robert Donelan, Brenda Donelan, Linda Müller-Crepon, Patricia Donelan, Brian Donelan and Irene Donelan; and 11 nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Thomas E. Donelan Jr.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday, May 4, in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, May 5, in St. Patrick’s Church, 511 Main Street, Falmouth, followed by burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Gifford Street, Falmouth.
