Walter J. Morey Jr., 80, of East Sandwich died June 2 at Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Centerville.
He was the husband of 54 years to Eleanor (McSweeny) Morey.
Born and raised in Brockton, Mr. Morey was the son of Walter J. and Ruth (Quirk) Morey. He graduated from Coyle High School in 1951 and from Stonehill College in 1957.
Mr. Morey served as a paratrooper in the US Army. Later, he was a teacher in the Abington School District for 35 years before retiring in 1994.
In addition to teaching, he spent 36 years as a park ranger for the US National Park Service, covering the Cape Cod National Seashore.
He was an avid Boston sports fan, especially of the Bruins and Red Sox. Mr. Morey was a communicant of Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee. He also enjoyed the beach and walking along the canal.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Morey leaves a daughter, Ann M. Morey of East Sandwich; a son, John P. Morey and his wife, Carla Morey, of Milton; and two grandchildren, Alexandra and Jack Morey. He also leaves his sister, Joan Dion of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, James F. Morey.
A funeral Mass was celebrated June 4 at Parish of Christ the King.
He was buried with military honors at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
