William K. Soares, 82, of East Falmouth died on June 11.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Ellen (Vaughn) Soares, and additional family in Falmouth and Mashpee.
Born in Hyannis, Mr. Soares was the son of Manuel R. (Jake) and Emma (Ferreira) Soares. He was a lifelong Falmouth resident.
He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1951 and served four years in the US Navy on the USS Gearing, a destroyer.
After returning to Falmouth, Mr. Soares joined the family business, Jake’s Tap in East Falmouth.
Mr. Soares served as a call firefighter at Engine 5, coached youth baseball and served on the Falmouth Recreation Committee. He was also a member of the Falmouth Commodores Baseball Committee and the Falmouth Beverage Association.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his sons, Eric Soares of Mashpee and Matthew Soares of Brookline; his daughters, Joan Soares of Winter Park, Florida, Melinda Cavanagh of Warwick, Rhode Island, Rosemary Soutter of Bedford, New Hampshire, and Paula Soares of Cambridge; his brother, Milton Soares of East Falmouth; eight grandsons and nine granddaughters.
Mr. Soares was predeceased by his half-sister, Helen Grant of Edgartown.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday, June 15, from 4 to 7 PM at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 16, at 11 AM at St. Anthony’s Church, 167 East Falmouth Highway.
Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, East Falmouth.
