The Friends of the Sandwich Town Archives (FOSTA) has begun its annual fundraising effort to support the operations of the Sandwich Town Archives and Historical Center. As in years past, the goal of the campaign is to directly fund the salary of the town archivist and overall functions of the archives.
FOSTA president Kaethe Maguire said, “We are always humbled by the generous support we receive from Sandwich residents to fund the town archives. It is clear that the people of Sandwich have great pride in their history and are dedicated to helping preserve it. FOSTA is devoted to keeping our history accessible to everyone and appreciate any and all support.”
This year, for every $25 donated to FOSTA, the donors’ names will be entered into a drawing for a gift crafted by either Sandwich artist Kathryn Kleekamp or Sandwich glass artisan David McDermott.
So far this year FOSTA has successfully acquired $20,000 in funding from the community preservation committee to provide new moveable, archival shelving for the MacKnight Room. The new shelving will increase storage space by 75 percent and accommodate large boxes of documents.
The archives and historical center is located in the MacKnight Room of the Sandwich Public Library, 142 Main Street, Sandwich. It is open to the public and staffed by archivist Barbara Gill from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The archives may be reached by calling 508-888-0625, extension 302.
