Former Substitute Teacher Sentenced On Child Porn Charges

A year and a half after being found in possession of child pornography, a former substitute teacher from East Sandwich has been to seven years in prison.

According to a press release from the Department of Justice, Bryce Garner, 23, was discovered to be in possession of more than 2,300 images and more than 1,100 videos depicting sexual abuse of children. A federal agent in Oklahoma City identified Mr. Garner while conducting an undercover investigation on February 27, 2013.


A press release from June 2013 said that when Mr. Garner’s home was searched, an unrelated 14-year-old boy was also in the home.

According to the Town of Sandwich annual report from 2012, Mr. Garner was paid $2,310 as a substitute teacher in the town. He was also employed as a camp counselor with the Boy Scouts of America and as an overnight babysitter.

Mr. Garner was sentenced by US District Judge Patti B. Saris to seven years in prison followed by eight years of supervised release. Mr. Garner must register as a sex offender upon his release.
