Bourne High School Celebrates Winter Sports

 Bourne High School held their Winter Sports Awards Night on Tuesday, recognizing the student-athletes and teams for a job well done.

The Lady Canalmen basketball team reached the quarterfinal round posting an 18-3 record before falling to the eventual Division 3 South champion, Archbishop Williams. Juniors Brie Girouard, Shelby Corsano and Chelsea Doucette were named to the South Coast Conference All-Star team. Girouard and Doucette were also named to play in the New Bedford Boys’ & Girls’ Club All-Star game on March 22. In addition, Girouard, Corsano and Stacie Tonello were named to the Cape & Islands High School All-Star Game Team. Tonello and Amanda Pomeroy were named SCC All-Star Honorable Mention and Pomeroy received the SCC Individual Sportsmanship Award and the BHS Team Sportsmanship Award. Corsano was named MVP and Olivia Cotton received the Unsung Hero Award.

The boys’ basketball team (13-8) also reached the state tournament with its season ending in the first round to Martha’s Vineyard, the eventual Division 3 South champion. Senior point guard Jack Canterbury was named to the SCC All-Star team, with Blade Leavenworth and Brendan Andrade receiving Honorable Mention. E.J. Baracchini took home the SCC Individual Sportsmanship Award. Senior guard Josh Curry was named Most Improved and Leavenworth, Andrade and Canterbury all received Captain’s Awards. Canterbury and Leavenworth were named to the Cape & Island High School All-Star Game Team and Canterbury was nominated for the prestigious Dave Cowens Achievement Award which will be presented later this month.

The Bourne boys’ hockey team also reached postseason play this winter. The Canalmen finished the season at 11-9-1 after a preliminary-round loss to Holliston. Jimmy Commesso and Michael Wiggin were named to the SCC All-Star team. Chad Marsh and Ed Lavelle received All-Star Honorable Mention and Tommy Davis took home the SCC Individual Sportsmanship Award and the Team Sportsmanship Award. Mitchell Eldridge and Lavelle each received the Most Improved Award and Commesso was named the team MVP.

The Bourne-Mashpee-Wareham girls’ hockey team ended their season with a victory over Cohasset-Hanover. Kate Albretsen was named to the Southeastern Massachusetts Girls’ Hockey League All-Star Team and received the team MVP Award. Monica Conway was named Most Improved and Elizabeth St. Germaine took home the Team Sportsmanship Award.

John McWade and Keegan Throop were named SCC Honorable Mention in boys’ indoor track and field. Cully Gomes received the SCC Individual Sportsmanship Award and the Team Sportsmanship Award. McWade was named Most Improved and Gomes and Throop shared MVP honors.

In girls’ indoor track and field Shelby Fortune and Sheehan Barton were named SCC Honorable Mention All-Stars. They also shared team MVP honors. Caroline Kent received the SCC Individual Sportsmanship Award and the Team Sportsmanship Award. Megan Ladner was named Most Improved.
