Bourne resident Chase Orava was born in Florida, then moved to Washington, DC, and New York before settling on Cape Cod. He attended Bourne Middle School and played baseball for two seasons in the Bourne Youth League and three seasons with Bourne Babe Ruth. After BMS, Orava attended Dennis-Yarmouth High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball.
Last summer he played on the Cape Cod Senior Babe Ruth All-Star Team. This summer Orava is a member of Team Cape Cod and is headed to the University of Southern Maine this fall, where he will play baseball.
Oraca is a crafty right-handed, sidearming, relief pitcher. His style creates a lot of trouble for opposing hitters.
“Chase is a kid we saw at D-Y in a game against Falmouth when he came on in relief,” Team Cape Cod head coach Dan Proto said. “We knew then that we had to have him. He gives hitters a different look. He’s a little bit unorthodox, keeps teams off balance and will get a lot of ground balls.”
The coach of last summer's Senior Babe Ruth All-Star Team, John Rudowski also praised Orava.
“Beyond being a standout athlete,” Rudowski said, “Chase is one of the most respectful young gentlemen I’ve ever met.”
Team Cape Cod (21-1) wraps up the regular season against the Cape Cod Senior Babe Ruth All-Star Team at 7 PM on Monday, July 14, at McKeon Park in Hyannis.
