Left-handed pitcher Ryan Kellogg (Arizona State) and outfielder Mark Laird (LSU) will be making return appearances this summer at Doran Park when the Bourne Braves open the Cape Cod Baseball League season on Wednesday, June 11, at 6 PM, against the Wareham Gatemen.
Laird is coming off his sophomore season for the Tigers. During the spring he hit .291, scoring 38 runs and knocking in another 27 over 59 appearances. His spring slugging percentage was .354 and he struck out just 23 times in 223 at bats. Last summer for the Braves Laird hit .292. He saw action in 18 games for Bourne and struck out just nine times in 65 at bats.
Kellogg, also coming off his sophomore season, hails from Whitby, Ontario, Canada. He made 16 starts for the Sun Devils this spring, compiling a win-loss record of 8-3 and an ERA of 3.76. In 103 innings of work he struck out 66 and walked 22. Last summer for the Braves Kellogg started six games and over 33 innings pitched he compiled an ERA of 1.36. He struck out 26 and walked just five.
Ryan Burr (Arizona State) was signed by the Braves, but has an invitation from Team USA.
The Braves will open the season with six players from their original roster playing in the NCAA Super Regionals. University of Louisville pitcher and infielder Anthony Kidston, pitcher Josh Rogers and pitcher Jacob Sparger and the Cardinals are facing Kennesaw State. Texas outfielder Ben Johnson and the Longhorns are up against Houston. Vanderbilt catcher Jason Delay and his team are facing Stanford and Oklahoma State pitcher Thomas Hatch and the Cowboys are facing UC Irvine.
Last summer the Braves finished fourth in the Western Division, reaching the playoffs, where they defeated the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the first round, but fell to Cotuit Kettleers in the semifinal round.
Bourne will be at home on Thursday, June 12, when they will host the Orleans Firebirds at 6 PM.
