Five members of the Cotuit Kettleers will be at Red Wilson Field in South Yarmouth on Saturday for the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game. Jake Fincher (NC State) will get the start in centerfield, with Rhett Wiseman (Vanderbilt) has also been named to the squad, along with pitchers Pat Corbett (Coastal Carolina) and Jared Walsh (Georgia). Yale Rosen (Washington State) will represent the Kettleers in the home run hitting contest.
The victory over Brewster on Wednesday kept Cotuit (20-14-1) in a tie with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (20-12-1) atop the Western Division with 41 points apiece. Over the past six games Wiseman has led the league in hitting as he has swung the bat at a .524 clip. He also leads the league in RBI with nine and in home runs with three over the past seven days.
Cotuit 5 - Brewster 4
Seven scoreless innings for starter Evan Beal (South Carolina), with seven strikeouts put Wednesday’s game in the win column for the Kettleers. Beal scattered just three hits. However, the Whitecaps rallied in the ninth, nearly spoiling Beal’s efforts.
Cotuit opened with a run in the bottom of the first on a Rhett Wiseman base hit. They scored again in the fourth and added two more runs in the fifth on a double by Wiseman, his 10th of the summer, and a base hit by Jake Fincher. The Kettleers made it 5-0 in the seventh when Logan Ratledge (NC State) singled to score Danny Diekroeger (Stanford).
The Kettleers combined for 11 hits led by Mark Payton (Texas) who finished 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored.
Cotuit 8 - Bourne 5
A fourth inning three-run home run by Rhett Wiseman gave the Kettleers a 4-2 lead Monday night on the way to an 8-5 victory over Bourne at Doran Park.
Jared Walsh (Georgia) got the start for Cotuit going five frames, allowing two runs on eight hits. John Hochstatter (Stanford) pitched two and two-thirds innings in relief, with Adam Ravenelle (Vanderbilt) picking up the save.
Cotuit added a run in the top of the sixth when Hunter Cole (Georgia) singled to score Jake Fincher. Mark Payton (Texas) drove in two more in the top of the eight.
The Braves came back with three runs in the bottom of the frame. In the ninth Austin Byler (Nevada-Reno) tripled, scoring Danny Diekroeger (Stanford).
Fincher led Cotuit at the plate going 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
Yarmouth-Dennis 4 - Cotuit 3
Austin Byler (Nevada-Reno) doubled in the top of the third inning, moved to third on a base hit by Jake Fincher (NC State) and then scored on an error to give the Kettleers an early lead Sunday. Cotuit then held off the Red Sox until the bottom of the eighth when two hits and two errors led to three Y-D runs in an eventual 4-3 win for the Red Sox.
Chris Ellis (Mississippi) got the start for Cotuit going seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. Joel Seddon (South Carolina) came on in relief in the eighth with no outs and a runner on second. Seddon allowed a single hit, but the Red Sox took advantage of two Cotuit errors to scored the winning run.
Rhett Wiseman (Vanderbilt) finished the day 2-for-4 with a couple of doubles. Danny Diekroeger was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
