Golden Home Run Puts Sandwich Over The Top

Sandwich Senior Babe Ruth 1 (7-5) put one in the win column on Tuesday, July 8, with an 11-3 victory over Dennis-Yarmouth. Cam Yadisernia got the start and went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out four. While Yadisernia held the D-Y bats in check, Sandwich picked away scoring seven times over the first five innings.
The big blow came in the sixth inning off the bat of Sandwich’s Jacob Golden who launched a moonshot over the center field fence scoring three runs. Yadisernia knocked in another to give Sandwich an 11-2 lead.
Nick Carpenter came on in relief in the seventh and snuffed out a D-Y rally, allowing one run on one hit. Jason Demers provided a big boost with a diving catch in left field that may have gone for a triple and added to the D-Y scoring.
Golden finished the afternoon two for two, with a walk and was hit by a pitch. He accounted for five RBI. Yadisernia went three for four, as did Chris Jones. Christian Harold also had multiple hits for Sandwich finishing the game at two for two.
Sandwich 1 gave up two runs in the bottom of the first inning Monday afternoon to Team Cape Cod in a 12-6 loss. Sandwich came back to tie the game in the top of the third, but could not hold on as TCC scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.
Vinny Petracca got the start for Sandwich and went five frames, allowing seven runs on seven hits. He struck out five walked three and hit a batter. Only four of the runs were earned. Petracca worked his way out of jams, stranding runners in scoring position five times.
Trailing 2-0, sandwich got on the scoreboard in the top of the third when Kris Carpenter led off with a double into left field. He moved to third on a base hit by Tyler Moffa and scored on a wild pitch. Moffa later came around to score the second Sandwich run on a sacrifice fly into right field by Chris Jones.
Down 7-2 in the sixth, sandwich once again plated two runs. Jones led off the frame with a walk and went to second on a base hit by Matt Dahl. Christian Harold then reached on a fielder’s choice and an error by the third baseman to load the bases. Ryan McNally grounded out, scoring Jones, and a base hit by Petracca brought Dahl home.
The final two Sandwich runs crossed the plate in the top of the seventh. Carpenter led off the inning with a walk and went to second when Moffa was hit by a pitch. Jones hit an infield single to load the bases. Carpenter raced home from third on a wild pitch and Moffa scored on a ground out by Dahl.
Jacob Golden came into pitch for Sandwich in the sixth and went two-thirds of an inning before turning the ball over to Jason Demers, who got the one batter he faced to foul out to Carpenter at third.
Dahl finished the day two for four with an RBI and a run scored. Carpenter was one for two with a double and a walk and scored two runs. Moffa went one for two, was hit by a pitch and scored two runs.
